Morocco’s fruit and berry exports to European countries have been steadily expanding between 2018-2022–more than quadrupling in value–from $1.7 billion USD in 2018 to $7.1 billion USD dollars in 2022, said East Fruit.
Spain (27%), France (17%), the Netherlands (17%), Russia (8%), and the United Kingdom (7%) are among the top 5 fruit importers from the Kingdom.
Spain has shown quite a penchant for Moroccan fruit. Blueberries alone bring almost a third of Morocco’s total revenues from exports to Spain.
Aside from blueberries (31%), Spain imports Moroccan raspberries (20%), avocados (13%), watermelons (12%), strawberries (8%), and various other fruits.
Fruit and berry exports to France contributed approximately $1.2 billion to Morocco during the period, comprising 17% of its total earnings. Morocco is now France’s fifth-largest supplier of fruits and berries.
Moroccan watermelons (23%), melons (19%), mandarins (16%), avocados (9%), raspberries (9%), and blueberries (6%) are seeing the most active demand in France.
The Netherlands contributed 17% of Morocco’s total earnings from fruit and berry exports, totaling $1.2 billion. However, exports to the Netherlands have been falling since 2020.
Alongside raspberries (40%), Moroccan exports to the Netherlands have included mandarins (15%), blueberries (15%), frozen strawberries (10%), and oranges (5%).
Moroccan fruit and berry shipments to Russia are on the decline. Mandarins continue to be the largest export category from Morocco to Russia, accounting for 84% of total profits.
Meanwhile, Moroccan fruit and berry exports to the UK saw the most active growth rates between 2018 and 2022. Brexit quadrupled UK-EU commerce with Morocco, whose share increased sixfold.
Berries seem to pique the majority of the UK’s interest in Moroccan fruit (blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries, in particular). Together, they totaled more than 50% of Moroccan fruit exports to the United Kingdom. Mandarins attained 31% of the total exports, while watermelons amounted to 10%.
