The Kingdom of Morocco is closely following the latest developments in the Republic of Niger, while underlining the necessity of sustaining the country’s stability, said Morocco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the African Union and UNECA, Mohamed Arrouchi.
During the urgent meeting of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council (PSC) regarding the situation, the ambassador emphasized that Morocco believes in the wisdom of Niger’s people and vital forces to preserve gains, maintain its important constructive regional role, and work toward realizing the aspirations of the republic.
Last Thursday, a group of Nigerien soldiers chaired by Colonel Amadou Abdramane appeared on national television to announce a coup d’état, declaring that they had dissolved the constitution, suspended all institutions, and closed the country’s borders.
