Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova termed the Russian-Moroccan relations as very good and brilliant, explaining that they usher in Russia’s openness to Africa and vice versa.
The Russian official highlighted, on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Summit (July 27-28 in Saint Petersburg) that the two countries’ cooperation ties are satisfactory in a variety of fields, such as economy, finance, tourism and business.
“We have a solid legal basis for this cooperation,” she added, referring to the Russia-Morocco strategic partnership agreement, which goes back to 2002 and was furthered in 2016 by the “Declaration on the Deep Strategic Partnership.”
Morocco is one of Russia’s top three African partners, ranking second in exports and third in imports.
Since 2021, trade has expanded by more than 25%, with fisheries being a promising sector of cooperation.
“Trade has increased by more than 25% since 2021, and the same dynamic has been observed in the first months of this year,” Zakharova said.
Regarding the prospects for expanding trade relations with Morocco, the official reported that Russian firms are interested in gaining a foothold in the energy, technology and logistics markets.
