Moroccan Tourism Office (ONMT) and Arkia Airlines inked an agreement on Friday to expand air routes between Morocco and Israel, promote tourism and improve air connectivity. The deal is in line with ONMT’s promotional strategy to advertise Morocco as a hot destination.
Arkia Airlines, Israel’s second largest airline, will establish a direct Tel Aviv-Essaouira flight in September, offering 11,000 seats. The accord also augments the capacity of Arkia’s airliners flying between Tel Aviv and Marrakech to 22,000 seats.
Under the partnership, Airbus 321 will be operating three flights to Morocco, raising Arkia’s overall capacity to 33,000 seats.
Adel El Fakir, Managing Director of ONMT, called the partnership a constructive dynamic the Israeli market is experiencing.
Gad Tepper, Managing Director of Arkia, expressed excitement over the new destination, which will kick the door open for Israelis to explore Essaouira’s culture, historical landmarks, and breathtaking views.
The new travel destination will be marketed digitally and disseminated via other mediums (TV, posters…).
Israeli tourism arrivals in Morocco hit around 75,000 in 2022 and are now at 39,000 as per figures for Jan-June 2023.
