The Salé City National Police detained an Ivorian citizen residing illegally in Morocco on Thursday night on suspicion of assault resulting in the tragic death of a five-year-old child, said a security source.
In accordance with the source, the accused offender hurled a small gas bottle into the midst of a pile of burning wheels in Salé’s Sidi Moussa area, in a common gathering place for youngsters, thus causing the bottle to explode, with the resulting fragments gravely wounding the girl. She later died in a hospital.
The quick action of police authorities enabled the suspect’s arrest immediately after the commission of the crime, and the scene of the crime was promptly cordoned off and investigated.
The suspect was placed in police custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor.
