Joint Police operations carried out in Rabat and Casablanca, on Tuesday, helped catch 19,992 firecrackers and detain 5 suspects, including a 16y minor, over the smuggling of such items, according to a security source.
The juvenile was caught in the act of smuggling 326 firecrackers in Rabat’s Yacoub Al Mansour district, and his supplier was tracked down and arrested in Salé with 10,505 additional units.
Simultaneously, police agents in Casablanca’s Anfa district arrested three people while patrolling the old medina. 9,161 units of the same products were retrieved.
The black marketeers were separately investigated to identify the origin of the illegal products.
Police services are focusing on reducing the trafficking of firecrackers and smoke bombs, one of the prime sources of vandalism, violence, and physical assault.
