The provisional group in charge of people with disabilities at the House of Advisors called on Tuesday for beefing up the annual budget allocated to the Program on Disabilities.
The group asked for positive discrimination or affirmative action in social protection, by lowering retirement age, making disability compensation cost-based, subsidizing assistive equipment, and slashing taxes.
The group urged a nationwide medical coverage ensuring access to hospitals, and offering disability-friendly training for health professionals, and low-cost medical care.
It also recommended strengthening coordination mechanisms between all stakeholders for a better and efficient implementation of disability-based government programs and for a full-fledged citizenship.
Other groups at the same House highlighted Morocco’s proactive commitment to human rights, through its ratification of major conventions on the rights of people with disabilities.
