The local Tangier 2 prison denied on Sunday what had been published on a website regarding the immediate cause of the death of a Spanish prisoner and ensuing charges of medical malpractice by authorities, which purportedly led to his death.
The convict died on Dec. 3rd, 2022, during his transfer to the hospital after attempting suicide with his trouser lace, which he wrapped around his neck and fastened to his cell’s toilet window.
The prison’s administration also reported that the inmate in question had been suffering from digestive cancer, noting that he had initially refused to undergo chemotherapy–or any other surgery, for that matter–in Oct. 2021, but then consented it thirteen months later after the intervention of family members and representatives of the Spanish Consulate.
He started the chemotherapy at the Sheikh Zayed Hospital, where he had been admitted back in Feb. 2022.
The deceased received 36 medical examinations within the institution and 40 medical consultations in hospitals throughout his incarceration, as well as being admitted to a public hospital five times.
