The recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara by the State of Israel is a “historic and legitimate decision,” asserted the leaders (Sheikhs) of the Sahrawi tribes in the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region on Saturday.
They added that the Israeli recognition is a victory for the Moroccan diplomacy led by King Mohammed VI.
They also hailed Israel’s upcoming establishment of a consulate in Dakhla.
They emphasized that Israel’s decision confirms Morocco’s international legitimacy and historical rights over its southern regions, as well as the Sahara autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty.
The Sheikhs also stated that this recognition would have a significant political impact, by reinforcing the favorable worldwide momentum in support of Morocco’s national cause.
They emphasized that this decision is likely to strengthen the mechanisms of negotiation between the State of Israel and the Palestinians.
