Morocco’s interaction with financial institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB), is a real success story, Minister of Economy Nadia Fettah told “Forbes Afrique”.
She added that the Kingdom makes use of the financial tools offered by these financial to implement mega economic and social development projects, finance reforms, and build infrastructure to deal with crises.
Morocco’s role in the development of Africa is vital, as the country has always been the engine driving the continent through various levers of bilateral, regional, and continental cooperation.
On the occasion of IMF-WB annual meetings, slated in Marrakech (Oct. 9-15), Morocco is constructing a village “Road to Marrakech” adhering to sustainability principles. This would act as an inspiration for other African countries that lack the necessary infrastructure to host events of this scale.
As for the economic benefits projected for the Marrakech meetings, Fettah stated that guests will witness tangible achievements related to democracy and the rule of law, true involvement of civil society, and talented youth.
Morocco is very open to Europe and the rest of the world, and Africa should not be underestimated, stated the Minister.
Fettah underscored that Morocco is among the biggest investors in Africa, as it controls over 40% of the market in West Africa, has its state-run OCP involved in partnerships with African stakeholders, and is part of the pipeline that connects 17 African countries.
In a similar vein, she gave the example of Moroccan carrier (RAM) which operates daily flights to African sister nations. Morocco receives over 15 000 African students each year and funds approximately 12 000 scholarships.
