RPS, a British consulting and engineering business founded in 1970, will examine meteorological and oceanographic conditions at sea for the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline high-profile project. The tests will be conducted for a year along the pipeline’s route, the company announced recently in a release.
The contract, concluded by Morocco’s Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), the Nigerian Public Petroleum Company (NNPC) and RPS, allows the firm team to explore the zone using support from their workshop in Newbury, UK.
Anthony Gaffney, RPS MetOcean Director expressed excitement to offer assistance in this project. “We are looking forward to supporting ONHYM and NNPC to gain a greater understanding of MetOcean conditions in this region.” He added, “Our team has become well-known for our ability to provide accurate, reliable data; our services will support vital decision-making in the development of this prestigious project.”
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has invested in the pipeline project along with 13 other West African countries. The project aims to improve regional prosperity, energy security, and provide cleaner fuel access. It also offers an alternative export route to Europe.
The Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project is forecast to run from southern Nigeria to Benin, Togo, and Ghana, passing through 15 West African countries and eventually reaching Spain and Europe via the Mediterranean.
