Secretary General of Morocco’s Justice and Development Party (PJD, opposition) Abdelilah Benkiran urged, Thursday in a statement, the members of his party to stop commenting on the Israeli decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
In mid-March, the royal office strongly condemned the irresponsible behavior of the PJD after the Islamist party accused Moroccan diplomacy of being pro-Israel.
“Taking advantage of the Kingdom’s foreign policy and using it to serve the political agenda of a party is an unacceptable and dangerous precedent,” wrote the royal office.
After many setbacks, the opposition party has been desperately testing its bouncebackability by criticizing the Foreign Minister as defending the Jewish state in certain African and European meetings.
The Royal office had asserted, in the same reprimanding letter to the party, that Morocco’s position on the Palestinian issue is unshakable, and that such top priority cause cannot be subjected to political one-upmanship or narrow electoral campaigns.
King Mohammed VI, Chairperson of OIC-affiliated Al Quds Committee, had repeatedly reaffirmed Morocco’s firm attachment to the Palestinian issue in general and to the Al Quds question in particular, equating this steadfast position to the country’s commitment to its national cause.
