Morocco has begun developing its first-of-a-kind fish hatchery project in the Tangier-Al Hoceima region. This 120 Mln MAD aquaculture project will stretch over 2.28 hectares and will ramp up the value chain for fingerling supply.
Inaugurated by Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Mohamed Sadiki, the Aquago-developed project would generate up to 30 million high-quality local fish fry.
The Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Investment Center will oversee the licensing process as a form of support for the National Agency for Aquaculture Development.
“This is Morocco’s first fish fry breeding project, with a state funding of 20 million dirhams for hatchery equipment”, stated Sadiki as reported by Morocco’s news agency (MAP).
The commercial fish hatchery project is in line with the “Halieutis” 2020 plan meant to ensure the sustainability of the fishery sector and boost its contribution to national economy.
