After a couple prominent European figures from across the political spectrum expressed their views on Israel’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and its intention to open a consulate in Dakhla, it is now the turn of American Congresswoman Lisa McClain to get the word out. On Tuesday, she turned to Twitter to congratulate the decision, calling it “great news.”
McClain, who represents a district in the state of Michigan in the United States Congress, made the following statement: “Israel’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty in the Sahara is great news for both the region and the world, and only through the monumental Abraham Accords is this diplomatic effort possible.”
The member of the United States Lower House added “As a proud member of the Abraham Accords Caucus, I am pleased to see these two great nations moving forward and forging a new relationship that will have a lasting impact.”
King Mohammed VI received on Monday a letter from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressing his country’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Sahara territory. The Israeli Prime Minister stated that the decision would be reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli Government and transmitted to the United Nations, and regional and international organizations.
