Casablanca’s Court of Cassation rejected, on Tuesday, the appeal of two inmates: Omar Radi and Soulaimane Raissouni, upholding their sentencing for sexual assault charges.
The first convict, aged 37 and prosecuted for “undermining the internal security of the State” and “rape”, was charged in July 2020, and sentenced on appeal in February 2022 to six years in prison.
The second, 51yo and sued for “sexual assault” against a young LGBT+ activist, was sentenced to five years in prison.
The two trials, which had nothing to do with the culprits’ journalistic profession, complied with international standards, despite pressure from a few politicized, slanted NGOs.
Moroccan journalist Imad Stitou – who was with Omar Radi at the time of the rape but failed to assist the victim – was given a one-year verdict. Upon the conviction of his friend, Stitou fled to Tunisia.
President of the Moroccan Association for Victims’ Rights (AMDV) Aicha Guellaa welcomed the verdict, deploring the fact that the defendants and their lawyers are politicizing these cases despite the glaring evidence.
