The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) arrested in Nador (Morocco), on Wednesday, an IS-affiliated member operating in Morocco and Spain. In a parallel effort, the Spanish Guardia Civil nabbed another partner in Lérida (Spain).
The Moroccan-Spanish joint operation is part of sustained efforts to counter terrorist threats that might jeopardize the two kingdoms’ security, as per a statement by the Territory Surveillance Directorate (DGST).
Security coordination revealed that the two suspects were in contact with elements affiliated with IS in Syria, and were readying to carry out terrorist attacks in Europe, as commanded by IS leaders.
Investigations also confirmed that the suspects were in contact with an irregular immigration network to obtain forged IDs that would facilitate such schemes.
The Nador culprit is held in police custody for further investigations under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in charge of terrorism cases.
