China and Algeria signed, on Tuesday in Beijing, a set of bilateral agreements with Algeria, including deals on telecommunications, sustainable urban development, and trade, following the meeting of Chinese President Xi Jinping with Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune.
This is Tebboune’s first state visit to China, of which he took advantage by trying to expand cooperation in numerous vital industries, including infrastructure and petrochemicals.
Jinping said that the two countries are planning to forge deeper ties in the agriculture sector, aerospace, nuclear energy, and renewable energy, as well as cultivating new points for cooperation.
China’s relations with Algerian ruling National Liberation Front date back to the late 1950s, prior to Algeria’s seeking independence from France.
Tebboune paid a similar state visit to Russia last month, during which he urged Russian President Putin to promote Algeria’s membership in the BRICS bloc, which was recently rejected.
