The Kingdom’s airports set a new record of over 12 million tourists (12,197,957 passengers) in the first six months of 2023, a 5% increase over the same period in 2019, said the National Airports Office (ONDA).
According to the office, this development concerns the majority of airports that experienced double-digit growth rates, including Tangier (42%), Oujda (32%), Nador (25%), Fez (17%), Agadir (13%), and Marrakesh (10%).
“By receiving the equivalent of 1,166,657 passengers during the first quarter, domestic air traffic recorded an 83 percent recovery rate compared to the same period in 2019.”
International airline traffic climbed by 7% in comparison to the same time in 2019, achieving the equivalent of 11,031,300 passengers. This development can be attributed to the strong success of the European and North American markets, which saw double-digit growth rates reaching 13% and 22% respectively, said the same source.
According to the release, an equivalent of 97,071 flights were recorded during the first quarter of 2023, with a recovery rate of 98 percent compared to the same period in 2019. This resulted in Mohammed VI Airport’s share of the flight total reaching 38%, while the shares of the two airports of Marrakesh Menara and Agadir-Al Massira, correspondingly, attained numbers of 24 and 8 percent.
