Morocco’s basketball team made history on Sunday by winning the AfroCan 2023 tournament in Luanda, Angola. At the end of a final marked by tight scores, the Atlas Lions triumphed over the Ivory Coast by a score of 78-76.
This is Morocco’s first Continental title since the tournament’s inception in 2019. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) won the tournament’s last iteration.
The Moroccan team reached the final after crushing the former champions 76-69.
Morocco defeated Rwanda (59-58), and then Tunisia (67-52), before winning three straight games against Cameroon, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
