President of occupied enclave “Melilla” and leader of the PP Juan José Imbroda said on Saturday, during his inauguration for a sixth term, that no solid argument that can justify the annexation of Melilla by Morocco.
Spain had colonized the city of Melilla by the end of the 15th century and is still claiming the territory as its own.
He added that all historical, legal, and human aspects of Melilla do not match any Moroccan future plans to retrieve the enclave.
To weather the storm, Imbroda went on to say that the Spanish and Moroccan Kingdoms have deeply-rooted ties of cooperation and share respect for sovereignty. He pledged to contribute to the development of these strong ties during his mandate.
He recalled that the enclave’s economy was strongly impacted by Morocco’s decision to eliminate customs in 2018 with the absolute close of borders.
