The State of Israel recognized Monday the sovereignty of Morocco over the Sahara and voiced its intention to open a consulate in Dakhla. The decision came in a letter from Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu to King Mohammed VI.
Netanyahu indicated that his country’s position would be reflected in all relevant actions and documents by the Israeli Government, according to a statement by the Royal Office.
He also emphasized that the United Nations, regional and international organizations as well as countries with which Israel has diplomatic relations will be informed of the decision.
