Morocco is classified as part of Group E, along with Zambia, Congo, Tanzania, Niger, and Eritrea, announced the CAF’s general assembly on Thursday following the draw for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualification process.
Draws for the next World Cup took place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, to discern groups for Africa’s qualifying teams for the 2026 Canada-USA-Mexico World Cup.
Africa made its stamp on the World Cup in 2022 courtesy of Morocco. For the first time in the continent’s history, a nation went to the competition’s semifinals. The Atlas Lions, who defeated Portugal, Spain, and Belgium, were unsuccessful, however, in their bid to make it to the final against France.
Africa will now have 9 teams, with 48 total teams in the 2026 competition. To make matters easier, the CAF decided to divide the 54 African countries into 9 groups of six. The first team in each group will have its World Cup ticket validated.
