Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense company, plans to open two drone manufacturing plants in Morocco, according to Shai Cohen, former head of Israel’s liaison office in Rabat.
The Israeli envoy stated that one of the two industrial sites will be located near Casablanca, yet provided no additional information.
Elbit is a major technology firm that specializes in the development of a wide range of defense, internal security, and commercial devices which are sold all over the globe.
At a bilateral defense meeting in Rabat last January, Morocco and Israel agreed to strengthen their military cooperation by expanding intelligence and cybersecurity.
In early July, it was announced that Israeli Merkava tanks would be sent to Morocco.
Since ties resumption was implemented in December 2020 as part of the Abraham Accords– brokered by Washington between the Jewish state and many Arab countries–trade between Israel and Morocco has increased. It remains to be seen as to how or if this trade will be affected by recent far-right Israeli aggression in Palestine, however.
The company, whose shares are traded on the Tel Aviv and Nasdaq stock markets, operates in a variety of capacities, including aerospace, terrestrial, naval, command and control, communications, surveillance, reconnaissance, and intelligence systems.
