On his way back from the 2023 N.A.T.O. summit, U.S. President Joe Biden made the bold claim on Thursday in Finland that Russian President Vladimir Putin “has already lost the war in Ukraine.”
Yet, as he basked in the virtually twenty-four-hour glow of the sun which pervades such northern latitudes at this time of year–and apparently also the self-aggrandizing glow of what he considered to be his own doing with respect to Finland’s successful quest to join the alliance, with Sweden apparently on the way–his assessment of the Russo-Ukraine conflict seemed like simple propaganda designed to bolster his chances of reelection.
While committing to arm Ukraine with weaponry that is widely considered to be a violation of international law, he and his Western allies contradictorily remained steadfast in their refusal to permit Ukraine to join the alliance.
Biden predicted that Putin will have a real problem strategizing his next move, and that the depletion of Russia’s resources allocated to the war effort will be the time-limiting factor, as reported by CBS News.
