As part of the partnership between the National Police (DGSN) and the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, the Royal Police Institute in Kenitra (IRP) organized on Wednesday an awareness day on communication by sign language with people who are hearing impaired or hard-of-hearing, for the benefit of police agents working in reception services.
The purpose of the event is to educate security personnel about basic techniques for communicating with applicable citizenry in sign language, and also to establish a general framework for integrating this unique form of communication into basic and intermediate educational material to be made available to police services.
The DGSN and the Ministry are currently collaborating to create a comprehensive manual for the most commonly used police terminology and expressions. The guide will be incorporated into the Royal Institute of Police’s basic training and continuing education sessions nationwide. The partnership aims to improve police communication in reception and enhance the understanding of police terminology.
The partnership stems from the need to provide appropriate police responses to citizens with these specific needs, and to facilitate their access to the public police service, in accordance with DGSN’s strategy of enhancing the fundamental principles of good governance, modernization, and accountability.
