Morocco was among the top ten developing economies attracting international investment in renewable energy during the period 2015–2022, as it ranked second among African and Arab countries overall, according to UNCTAD’s World Investment Report 2023.
The report revealed that Morocco was the recipient of about $30 billion over a period of 7 years for such purposes, while Egypt attracted total investments valued at $45.8 billion.
Globally, Morocco took the tenth spot with investments amounting to $29.7 billion during the aforementioned period, representing 34 % of the total value of international investments.
Brazil ranked first with $114.8 billion, representing 32% of the value of investments, while Vietnam ranked second with investments amounting to $106.8 billion (31%). Chile followed with 84.6 billion dollars (54%), with India just behind at 77.7 billion dollars (14%). Kazakhstan rounded out the top five with a figure of 56.3 billion dollars (31%).
