Alstom, a French train construction firm, said on Thursday in a release that it will construct a second facility in Fez to produce driving cabs for subterranean and regional trains and create 200 direct jobs by 2025. The cost is expected to total 160 million MAD.
Alstom Maroc previously announced plans to expand its factory in Fez in 2020 and to add a second production line there in 2021. The Fez location employs 850 people, 56% of whom are women, and makes electric cables and Mitrac transformers.
This follow-up factory for making driving cabins is directly related to the group’s current objectives of expanding the local railway industry and strengthening the country’s infrastructure.
Alstom MENAT’s (MENA region +Turkey) general manager, Mama Sougoufara, stated that a global clearinghouse for rail transport technology would be established in the nation thanks to the transfer of the company’s unique innovation.
With close to 950 employees as of today, Alstom has completed several significant projects, including the signalization and delivery of 190 Citadis X02 tramways to the cities of Rabat (66 tramways) and Casablanca (124 tramways), 12 Avelia Euroduplex trains for the high-speed line connecting Tangier to Casablanca, and 77 Prima locomotives offering the best solutions for freight, passenger, and mixed-use transportation services.
Alstom Maroc has invested 320 million MAD in the growth of its industrial activity since 2019, enabling the delivery of 25 international projects and the creation of 1,200 new jobs in the transportation sector by the year 2025.
