The National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) announced that the number of wildfires registered nationally (January 1 to July 10) has amounted to a total of 182 incidents, which have affected more than 1,251 hectares.
According to the geographical distribution of the areas affected by the wildfires, the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region in particular has suffered the most from the fires, with 68 outbreaks and a burned area of 881 hectares.
The Souss Massa region took the second spot, accounting for 190 hectares (i.e., an estimated 15% of the total burned area).
The ANEF stressed that the summer surveillance and intervention systems should be fully activated, as the risk of wildfire development increases over the next several days and weeks.
The Agency called on users and visitors of forests to exercise the utmost caution and to not light fires throughout the remainder of the summer.
