The Republic of Angola expressed on Tuesday its support for a political solution based on compromise to solve the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, shifting back to neutrality in the long-running dispute.
Angola is among the few African countries which are still maintaining relations with “SADR” fictitious entity.
Angola’s position was declared in a joint statement, following the 3rd Moroccan-Angolan Joint Committee, chaired by foreign minister Nasser Bourita and Angolan peer Téte Antonio.
In this high-level meeting, Téte Antonio assured that “his country supports efforts by the UNSG and his personal envoy Staffan de Mistura to find a just, durable and mutually-acceptable political solution, based on compromise.”
The two senior officials renewed their unwavering attachment to respecting international law and countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.
