Shai Cohen, head of the Israeli liaison office in Morocco, announced the end of his duties on Saturday, four months after assuming this position, while David Govrin is returning to his position, according to tweets from the two officials.
Cohen took to his Twitter account to express gratitude for his time in Rabat and praised the bilateral achievements and positive developments which transpired throughout his tenure.
The Israeli official wrote: “I was very proud during these months of our bilateral achievements and the positive developments.” He added: “My thanks to all the Moroccans who welcomed me and opened their hearts and the doors of their wonderful kingdom to me.”
At the same time, former head of office David Govrin also expressed his happiness of resuming his work in Morocco. He communicated: “I am very happy to return to my second country, dear Morocco, to complete my noble missions that seek to strengthen and value the ties between the two countries.”
Shai Cohen will be replaced by David Govrin, who was appointed in 2021 and then recalled to Tel Aviv in September 2022 following allegations of “serious acts” of sexual and financial nature.
After a thorough investigation by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which targeted Govrin, the Israeli Civil Service Commission has closed the file, clearing the diplomat of the alleged misconduct. The return of Govrin was announced early June.
Morocco and Israel announced the resumption of diplomatic relations in December 2020, after they had been suspended following Rabat’s severing of relations with Israel.
