Around sixty individuals of varying ages from the villages of Beni Helal and Ouled Sidi Bouhia were rushed, on Saturday, to the Sidi Bennour Provincial Hospital as they showed signs of food poisoning, local authorities reported.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims may have consumed seasonal fruits purchased at the weekly market a day before the incident.
The hospital’s entire medical staff was mobilized to assist the sick upon arrival. Several ambulances have also been provided to carry patients in need of urgent care.
According to the same source, all patients admitted to the hospital are stable for now.
The National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) gathered samples of the allegedly contaminated products to run the necessary tests.
