Morocco is slated to acquire an undefined number of Merkava tanks from Israel as part of the African country’s attempt to beef up its military might, reported “The Defense Post” on Thursday.
The details came from Israeli defense official Yair Koles who revealed last month that Israel was in negotiations with two countries about selling armored vehicles.
The Merkava tank is armed with a robust 120mm smooth-bore gun that can eliminate numerous Soviet-era tanks within any battle radius.
The tank’s innovative electromagnetic danger detection and warning system provides personnel with higher safety.
The Merkava 4 tank’s newest iteration is powered by a 1,500hp diesel engine, a 25% increase in power over its predecessor.
