Moroccan Minister of Agriculture Mohamed Sadiki and the People’s Republic of China’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Tang Renjian signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday in Rabat to expand agricultural cooperation.
This MoU intends to foster mutually beneficial cooperation and joint development between the two parties in the sector of agriculture, improving food security and contributing to the economic growth and well-being of the populations of both countries.
Areas of collaboration include fisheries, aquaculture, organic farming, seafood processing technology, and other technologies for processing, storing, and transporting fruits and vegetables.
The MoU also covers agricultural, investment and trade, capacity building and human resource development, modern agriculture expertise/technology, innovation systems, agricultural consultancy, digitization and agricultural innovation, irrigation and water management techniques, and agricultural research.
Sadiki informed the press on the occasion that this MoU would increase cooperation between the two nations—most notably in agriculture and deep-sea fishing–and that it covers a number of significant sectors, including aquaculture, irrigation, and water management methodology.
Renjian, for one, believes that agricultural cooperation with Morocco would be beneficial at all levels, owing to the parallels and similarities between the two nations’ agricultural sectors.
