The Moroccan Movie The Journey, produced by Sahrawi filmmaker Said Zribiaa, won the “Best Feature Documentary” award at the “The Madras Independent Film Festival” (MIFF) May-July 2023 session, which is taking place in Chennai in the far south of India.
The Journey is a 100%-made Sahrawi motion picture, directed by Zribiaa from Boujdour, and produced by Haidar Rguibi via the foundation Si Films with the trademark of the Moroccan Center of Cinematography (CCM).
This movie follows the journey of Hassani Memory in the Moroccan Sahara, more precisely about a Sahrawi writer’s journey from the countryside in Saguia El Hamra to Rabat–the capital–in documenting his attempts to overcome life’s many challenges, as his schooling was delayed until the age of 16. It then chronicles the evolution of his rise to prominence in the southern provinces.
Alongside The Journey, Kathakali won the Best Short Documentary award, while Brothers Brothers garnered first place in the Best Director slot. As for the Honorable Mention, the award went to Ziuta’s Crossings. Both Axe, Salvador and Birth of the Song earned Special Mention recognition, as well.
