Two suspects out of the five involved in the notorious Elaattaouia affair–which resulted in the disappearance of 51 people in an illegal migration attempt–were arrested in Marrakech recently.
The 51 missing young people, including two women and a baby, departed the coast of Agadir, bound for the Canary Islands in an inflatable boat.
In an attempt to collect forensic data in support of the investigation, a variety of international security cooperation channels have been activated–including the extraction of DNA samples from families of missing persons and their inclusion in national and international databases of missing persons–with the intent of facilitating their identification.
The suspects were remanded in police custody to complete the investigation under the public prosecutor’s supervision, while the search for those remaining at-large continues.
