Paris should heed its earlier criticisms of Moscow, Teheran, and Beijing and apply in its own country what it alleges to be a more humanitarian response policy to domestic terrorism, urged the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova following rhetoric from French police unions calling for a crackdown on rioters on Sunday, reported Sputnik.
She went on to eviscerate the escalatory tactics which France has so aggressively condemned with respect to other nations’ security forces in similar situations, suggesting that the country should practice what it preaches.
A report published on June 30, entitled “Now That’s Enough,” calls on the police to be more forceful in subduing the demonstrators.
On June 27, police shot and killed 17-year-old Nahel during a traffic check in Nanterre after he failed to comply with their instructions.
Protests have erupted in various French cities and have been ongoing for many days, even affecting the tourism sector.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, 719 persons were detained during the fifth evening of violence from July 1-2. At least 45 police officers and gendarmes were injured, 577 cars and 74 structures were set on fire, and 871 fires on public roadways were recorded.
In reaction to these occurrences, 45,000 police officers and gendarmes were deployed after sunset on July 2, the third consecutive night which required such forces.
