The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Issam Charai, Morocco’s U-23 team coach, the title for the best trainer in the group stage of the African Cup of Nations for U-23. Four Moroccan team players were also recognized on best players list of AFCON U23, which continues to be held in Morocco until July 8th, according to a press release.
Charai directed the Moroccan team to the second phase of the African Cup of Nations after winning a trio of matches against Guinea, Ghana, and Congo.
Moroccan team players also secured their spots on the CAF best team formation. Following the end of the group stage of the TotalEnergies U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Morocco, the Technical Study Group (TSG) has released the Best XI list.
Egypt and Morocco emerged as major forces, with a notable presence of their players in the star line-up. Both are represented by four players each in the prestigious Best XI.
Morocco’s Mehdi Boukamir was commended for his unwavering performance in defense.
Ismael Saibari, Cheickna Diakite of Mali, and Ibrahim Mohamed of Egypt built a dangerous midfield.
Talented Moroccans Anis Begraoui and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, the latter of whom has netted three goals–along with Mali’s Cheickna Diakite–round out the playing field from the attack perspective.
Morocco will face Mali on Tuesday in Rabat for the semifinals in one of the most anticipated pairings of the tournament thus far.
