The Kingdom of Morocco recalled its ambassador to Sweden, while Sweden’s chargé d’affaire in Rabat was summoned to the Foreign Ministry to voice the country’s flat rejection and condemnation of allowing Quran burning in front of a mosque in Stockholm.
The ambassador was recalled to the homeland, upon the orders of King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, for consultations for an unspecified period of time, according to a statement by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.
The Swedish government had authorized Quran burning during Muslims’ most sacred days, marked by the end of pilgrimage to Mecca and Eid Al Adha. This is not the first time that the Swedish authorities decide to allow the desecration of Quran, an offensive and irresponsible act that harms the feelings of a billion Muslims around the world.
Regardless of political differences between countries, the Kingdom of Morocco rejects this pattern of repeated provocations targeting the faith of Muslims, and the practice of selective tolerance that would serve some, while neglecting the feelings of Muslims.
