The Kingdom of Morocco was overwhelmingly reelected as a member of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers (CMW) for the term 2024-2027– in the person of Mohammed Charef–at the elections held on the 11th Meeting of the States Parties to the Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.
The meeting took place Tuesday in New York.
Morocco received the highest number of votes, with 47 cast in its favor. This was a genuine referendum for the Moroccan stand over the position of nations with aggressive and strict migration policies.
The election–which saw fierce competition–reaffirms Morocco’s legitimacy and leadership in the field of migration management as envisioned by King Mohammed VI. With this victory, Morocco is now represented in almost all Treaty Bodies.
Morocco, which hosted the Marrakesh Pact in 2018, is also hosting the African Union Migration Observatory.
Charef, a university professor and member of the National Human Rights Council, is a highly acclaimed expert in migration and mobility management.
The CMW is comprised of 14 experts monitoring the implementation of the International Convention on Migrant Workers’ Rights and Their Families.
