Morocco is constructing a section of a new border fence at Barrio Chino, which separates the Moroccan territory from the occupied enclave of Melilla, according to Spanish news agency EFE.
The steel wire fence was heavily damaged a year ago (June 24, 2022) when 2,000 migrants attempted to climb it and storm into the city. The incident resulted in the death of 23 would-be migrant and was the cause behind installing this fence as an additional protection.
Initiated about a month ago by the Moroccan authorities, the new fence stretches along the border, towards the city of Nador, in parallel with the barriers set up by Spain (the highest being 10 meters).
