Despite the tense diplomatic ties between Morocco and France, the Moroccan military is about to receive Renault Sherpa vehicles armed with MBDA’s advanced Mistral 3 missiles. The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) will receive its first Sherpa vehicles in the coming months, said Spanish news website infodefensa on Monday.
According to the source, the vehicle in question, as well as the Atlas RC system for the Mistral’s autonomous launch, were on show at Paris Air Show which is held in the French capital this week.
The Atlas RC comprises mainly a remote launcher with four Mistral missiles that can spin 360 degrees and a thermal vision camera. To take a shot with a console from within or nearby the vehicle, the operator only needs to click a button.
It is composed of an intelligent system able to detect the threat alert from the control unit and start automatic monitoring.
The Moroccan version of the vehicle can carry eight Mistral missiles in addition to the four that the system already has.
It also offers a communications antenna and a search system, in addition to day/night sensors that can track targets under any circumstances.
