Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced in a press release today the implementation of new parental supervision tools on Messenger and enhanced safety features on Instagram to prioritize the well-being of teens.
Parents can use the Messenger features to monitor their teen’s activities–including time spent on the platform and message settings–without having access to their actual messages. Instagram has adopted safeguards to minimize interactions with strangers, such as requesting users to issue an invitation and limiting media sharing until the invitation is accepted.
Meta’s Parental Supervision features on Instagram give parents additional insight into their adolescents’ experiences. The aforementioned tools provide information about common acquaintances and allow parents to customize notification options, thus providing increased transparency regarding their teens’ online relationships.
Meta’s continuing partnership with parents and professionals guarantees that improvements are made on a regular basis by supporting responsible digital usage and protecting young users.
