The volume of traffic handled in the ports of the National Ports Agency (ANP) during 2022 totaled 87.2 million tons, down 4.2 percent compared to 2021, according to official data revealed by the Ministry of Equipment and Water.
Grain imports recovered 23.2% and fuel demand rose 9.4%, while container activity fell 2.9% and exceptional mineral demand fell 14.4%, the Ministry said in a statement.
The source said that the approval rate of the 2022 investment program for port development reached 76.5% of the planned amount within the range of 954 million dirhams, totaling 730 million dirhams.
The communication indicated that the most important approved projects include works to strengthen the main barrier of the Nador port, dredging of the major ports, preparatory work on the southern quay of Agadir, deepening of Casablanca port, and maintenance works in the administrative and access areas of the new port of Safi.
