In a multipolar world, caught between the pandemic’s aftermath and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Moroccan port complex “Tanger Med” is emerging as a burgeoning industrial zone and the prime driver of an aggressive development strategy led by the Kingdom.
Bloomberg highlighted recently the status of the country as refusing to take sides and focusing chiefly on its rapid economic growth by inviting foreign capital and attracting Western and Chinese manufacturers, in a successful attempt to navigate a globalized world.
The information agency turned a spotlight on the city of Tangier as being the gateway not only to Africa, but also to the global economy on the back of its leading car assembly factory, housed by “Tanger Med”, in addition to other major investments from Europe, the Middle East, China, Japan, and the US.
In the article entitled: “The art of navigating global disorder”, the news agency noted that Morocco’s King Mohammed VI conceived the “Tanger Med port project 20 years ago in what seems like a bygone era.” It also recalled the US-Morocco free trade deal which is backed by American multinationals and large corporations as Boeing and Intel.
The Northern city has become home to foreign investments in car and aerospace industries, setting up a base that exports to the West and the USA, and employs tens of thousands of young Moroccans.
