The Foreign Ministry appointed twenty-three new consulates in several countries–equivalent to thirty-eight percent of the total number of Moroccan consular posts–including two in Libya.
The two consulates general will be inaugurated in the two cities of Tripoli and Benghazi, largely due to the strong presence of the Moroccan community in Libya.
Additionally, a new consulate general will be opened in Miami (Florida, U.S.), to relieve pressure on the Consulate General of the Kingdom in New York and the Consular Affairs Department in Washington, D.C.
Of those who hold important consular positions, thirty-nine percent are women. Most are employed in the U.S., Canada, and Italy. This accounts for the overall increase in female-headed consulate positions from twenty-eight percent in 2022 to thirty-seven percent in 2023.
Fifty-two percent of the movement’s consuls general were appointed as a result of newly created positions.
Seventy-eight percent of the new appointees had prior experience in consular positions, while twenty-two percent had previous experience in other diplomatic fields.
