The Kingdom exported 900 tons of fresh lettuce in 2018–2019, with the Russian Federation receiving the majority of that quantity.
Exports to Russia dropped precipitously in 2020 and were nearly nonexistent in 2021. This development obviously produced a detrimental impact on total export quantities, which have started to increase once more as of very late 2021.
Morocco is focusing on the French market, which might be viewed as an intriguing option after limiting fresh lettuce shipments to Russia, added EastFruit.
France ranks second in the world as it is one of the major importers of fresh lettuce, which renders it a valuable market for Moroccan exporters.
Morocco’s fresh lettuce shipments to France have surged by approximately tenfold in the past five years, reaching 254 tons alone for the period January–March, 2023.
Morocco is the fifth largest exporter of fresh lettuce to the France. Eighty percent of total imports of these products come from Spain.
In 2018 and 2019, the UK imported 210 and 300 tons of fresh lettuce from Morocco, respectively.
