Israel’s Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology Ofir Akunis is scheduled to pay an official visit to Morocco on Monday, at the invitation of his counterpart Abdellatif Miraoui, wrote Israeli news website “I24”.
The two officials will discuss cooperation initiatives in various fields such as agritech, food tech, water, artificial intelligence, among others.
Akunis is also expected to meet with other ministers, researchers, and scientists as well as with the heads of the Jewish community in Morocco.
“I am happy and excited to make my first official visit to Morocco. During my time as Minister for Regional Cooperation, I had the honor of voting in favor of the peace agreement and the renewal of relations between Israel and Morocco,” Akunis said before the departure.
This visit follows a recent one by Israeli Health Minister Moshe Arbel, during which he signed with Moroccan peer Khalid Aït Taleb a deal to establish cooperation in the health field, as reported by Jewish News Syndicate (JNS).
Arbel’s visit was also aimed at easing mutual visa requirements and bringing Moroccans to work in Israel as nurses.
Some 200,000 Israelis are expected to visit Morocco in 2023, up from the 70,000 who traveled to the North African country last year.
