Four more countries –namely Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Benin, and Guinea– signed Memoranda of Understanding, on Friday at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) headquarters, to join the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, according to a press release by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The agreement were concluded between the Moroccan Office of Hydrocarbons and Mining (ONHYM) and the Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), on the one hand, and the National Company of Petroleum Operations of Ivory Coast (PETROCI), the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), the National Hydrocarbons Company of Benin (SNH-Benin), and the National Petroleum Company of the Republic of Guinea (SONAP) on the other hand.
The agreements reaffirm the parties’ commitment to this strategic endeavor. Upon completion, the project will provide a sustainable and reliable gas supply, improving living conditions, integrating economies, and mitigating desertification, while also giving Africa a new economic, political, and geopolitical outlook.
Director General of ONHYM, Amina Benkhadra, said that the multi-party collaboration is a step toward social and economic development through energy security and accessibility, with the goal of developing Africa by Africans.
