Israeli start-up company Nanox.ARC deployed a Medical Imaging System at C.H.U. University Hospital in Marrakech, tweeted Nanox Wednesday.
The facility is a major healthcare provider in the Marrakech-Safi region and the entire southern region of Morocco.
The company added that the system is currently operational and has already initiated the process of scanning human patients.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (F.D.A.) approved the use of Nanox.ARC in professional healthcare environments such as hospitals, clinics, imaging centers, and other radiological environments.
In early June, Nanox reportedly obtained an import license from the Moroccan authorities to distribute its product across the Kingdom.
In addition, it recently signed an agreement with a Moroccan company for the distribution and import of 270 Nanox.ARC units. Last May, the company also signed a three-year pre-sales agreement with Moroccan medical technology company VitalTech, headed by Samir Salba.
The price per unit of the Nanox.ARC is around $10,000. It weighs just 70 kilograms, whereas a traditional scanner can weigh up to 2,000 kilograms.
Nanox has just raised $20 billion from South Korean operator SK Telecom to accelerate its international rollout. SK Telecom will be responsible for manufacturing the equipment designed by Nanox.
