Following a horrifying donkey mistreatment in Safi (Western Morocco), several animal protection organizations, such as the “Société Protectrice des Animaux au Maroc” and “Jarjeer Mule and Donkey Trust”, have started legal action against an unknown individual, (It is said to be a 60-ish farmer), according to a statement by the two bodies.
The animal cruelty act went viral after photographs of a donkey with gouged out eyes were posted. The NGOs filed an immediate lawsuit with the public prosecution in Safi, requesting justice for the abused animal which lost its sight as a consequence of the inhumane assault.
In a phone call with Barlaman Today, Susan Machin, spokesperson of Jarjeer Mule and Donkey Trust Organization, expressed her shock stating that “it is the worst incident we have ever seen”. She voiced the organization’s determination to take the donkey into its care once it is released. Susan declined sharing any specifics as the probe is still under way.
If identified, the perpetrator would be facing criminal charges and possible penalties.
